In 2014, I painted the wall of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. I wanted to pay tribute to the city where I grew up. I chose a quote by Stendhal that stayed with me: “Love is the miracle of civilizations.”  These words were my way of celebrating Paris, a city that shaped me.

For that piece, I experimented with a new form. I composed my calligraphy in the shape of a circle. There was something about that shape that felt right. Complete, balanced, without hierarchy. It was the first time I used the circle, and it stayed with me. Over time, it became a kind of signature, a visual language that I carried into murals and installations across the world.

The circle speaks to everyone, the same as Arabic script, I believe. It’s universal, timeless, and open. It holds everything at once.

From this journey, I’ve created a new series of hand-finished prints. Each piece is unique. The calligraphic circle is positioned differently within each composition. No two are alike. Each one carries its own energy, its own balance.
