Description

The artwork “Aux armes et caetaera” presents the opening lines of La Marseillaise, the French national anthem in Arabic, set against the vibrant backdrop of the French flag’s iconic colors. This piece embodies the fusion of two powerful and historically charged symbols: the anthem and the flag reinterpreted through my own lens.

This work reflects my continuous exploration of cultural appropriation and reinterpretation. My practice has always centered on using art not just as a form of artistic expression but as a bridge between diverse cultures and histories.

As someone deeply influenced by my heritage, I have always defined myself as the product of a story rather than a nationality. This artwork challenges the viewer to reflect on what it means to be part of society while holding multiple cultural perspectives. It speaks to the power of language as a tool for connection rather than division, and how we can reinterpret historical symbols to make them resonate with modern audiences.

Through this reinterpretation, the artwork becomes a statement on the importance of inclusivity, pushing the boundaries of cultural identity and how we see ourselves within the global society.
